La ricostruzione mammaria dopo mastectomia è parte integrante del trattamento del carcinoma mammario. Obiettivi della ricostruzione mammaria sono: ripristinare il volume mammario, la simmetria, ricostruire il complesso areola capezzolo. Il tipo di intervento da eseguire dipende dalle caratteristiche intrinseche della paziente e dal trattamento terapeutico effettuato. La ricostruzione può essere effettuata mediante l’inserimento di protesi o l’utilizzo di tessuti autologhi. La scelta della tecnica è data comunque soprattutto dal morfotipo della paziente: magro, normotipo, pletorico. Il morfotipo della paziente influenza pure la tecnica di ricostruzione. Nella donna la mastectomia è un intervento fisicamente mutilante che crea uno shock psichico e fisico che si sovrappone alla consapevolezza di essere gravemente malata. L’evoluzione delle tecniche di ricostruzione mammaria ha consentito di restituire alle donne colpite da carcinoma una completa integrità corporea.

The breast reconstruction after mastectomy is part of the treatment of breast cancer. Objectives of breast reconstruction are to restore the breast volume, symmetry, and reconstruct the nipple areola complex. The form of action to perform depends on the intrinsic characteristics of the patient and the treatment performed. The reconstruction can be done by the insertion of implants or the use of autologous tissue. The choice of technique is still mainly on the morphology of the patient: thin, medium size, inflated. The morphology of the patient also influence the reconstruction technique. In women, mastectomy is a mutilating operation that creates a physical and psychic shock overlaps the awareness of being seriously ill. The evolution of breast reconstruction techniques has allowed the return to women suffering from cancer a complete bodily integrity.
