Towards an increasingly international Journal

From 2011 Il Giornale di Chirurgia will be published entirely in English. This decision is prompted by both the increasing number of international contributions and the numerous international visitors to the Journal’s website (www.giornalechirurgia.it).
As of November 30, 2010, there had been almost 350,000 visits to the website from 19,790 different users. Of these, over 50% came from outside Italy, as detailed below.

It can be inferred that half our online readers are probably not Italian speakers, meaning their ‘virtual visit’ is limited essentially to reading the English abstract.
The progressive passage to English is thus necessary both to complete the internationalization of the Journal and attain an impact factor.
With this in mind, we have revised the editorial standards and author guidelines.
We are convinced that this innovation can only improve international respect for our prestigious Italian tradition in surgery.
